Fever

Fever is a common symptom characterized by an elevation of body temperature above the normal range, typically in response to an infection or other underlying medical condition. The normal body temperature varies slightly but is generally around 98.6 degrees Fahrenheit (37 degrees Celsius). Fever itself is not a disease but rather a sign that the body is responding to an invader or a disruption in normal physiological processes.

Common Causes of Fever:

  1. Infections:

    • Bacterial infections (e.g., urinary tract infections, pneumonia).
    • Viral infections (e.g., influenza, common cold).
    • Parasitic infections (e.g., malaria).
  2. Inflammatory Conditions:

    • Rheumatoid arthritis.
    • Inflammatory bowel diseases.
  3. Heat-related Illnesses:

    • Heatstroke or severe dehydration.
